Since there’s so much news, this post specifically focuses on news from the Japanese side of the scene. Tomorrow there will be a new post featuring English visual novel news.

Many new titles have been announced and I can only hope that I’ve listed them all. Hope you enjoy this post and have a great new year! Full of visual novels of course.

Japanese visual novels

New Pulltop title: Sora to Umi ga, Fureau Kanata

Pulltop has announced a new spring title called Sora to Umi ga, Fureau Kanata. Which contains a story set on a island surrounded by a beautiful ocean. Where you, the protagonist, set out to find what runaway girl Emily is searching for. Read the full story synopsis here.

A website for the new title has already been opened here. It contains an introduction to the setting, the characters and beautiful preview CGs.

Sora to Umi ga, Fureau Kanata has been set to release as an all-ages title on March 30. Its story will be written by Konno Asta, who also worked on previous Pulltop titles. While the artists for the game will be Pulltop regular Yashima Takahiro along with Yamashita Kouji.

New Favorite title: Sakura, Moyu. -as the Night’s, Reincarnation-

Favorite has finally announced the title of their new game. It’ll be called “Sakura, Moyu. -as the Night’s, Reincarnation-“. A game set 10 years after a secret world-saving battle took place, which involved the help of magical girls.

A website has not yet been opened, but from the preview material released we know that there will be at least 4 heroines. The full article is available over at TGSmart.

Urushibara Yukito is in charge of the story. A name you might know from hit title Irotoridori no Sekai. While Favorite regular Shida Kazuhiro will team up with Natsume Eri once more to work on the art.

A release date has not yet been given.

New Navel title: Kimi to Mezameru Ikutsuka no Houhou

Navel has announced a new title to celebrate their 15th anniversary. The name of this game is Kimi to Mezameru Ikutsuka no Houhou. A website has been opened as well. Which contains information on the story, the three main characters, the sub-characters, and one sample CGs.

Kazuki Fumi will write the story for Kimi to Mezameru Ikutsuka no Houhou. Previous works include Nanairo Reincarnation and Shirogane x Spirits. While the art will be by Navel regulars Nishimata Aoi and Suzuhira Hiro.

Kimi to Mezameru Ikutsuka no Houhou has currently been given a release date of April 27.

Key opens website for Summer Pockets

Japanese company Key has opened the website for new all-ages title Summer Pockets. A title whose name has been mentioned since last year. A teaser movie has been released as well, available on Youtube here (on the aforementioned website).

Summer Pockets will have a story written by Niijima Yuu, Kai, and Hasama. With art by Key artist Na-Ga, as well as Izumi Tsubasu and Nagayama Yuunon, among others.

Currently the website only contains pages for the story, character introductions for 4 characters, and spec information. But more information will surely follow.

Summer Pockets is set to release on June 29.

Website updated for 9 -Nine- sequel

Palette has updated the website for 9 -Nine- sequel “9 -Nine- Sorairo Sorauta Soranooto”. Including a release date. Which has currently been set to April 27.

The original mystery visual novel 9 -Nine- Kokonotsu Kokonoka Kokonoiro title was released earlier this year and featured art by well-known artist Izumi Tsubasu and a story written by Kazuki Fumi.

Its sequel will have the same staff working on it.

MintCube opens website for Yuusha to Maou to, Majo no Cafe

MintCube has opened the website for upcoming game Yuusha to Maou to, Majo no Cafe. For those who don’t know, MintCube is a sub-brand of Cuffs, which include brands like Cube, Hulotte, and Sphere.

Yuusha to Maou to, Majo no Cafe is set to release in March and with the new website you can now find information on the 4 girls that this game will feature, as well as view various preview CGs.

A Clockwork Ley-Line: The Borderline of Dusk release

The English release for the first entry in the Ley-Line series has been decided. In fact, it has already been released as of yesterday! A Clockwork Ley-Line: The Borderline of Dusk is now available on Steam in an all-ages edition, or over at Denpasoft for the adult edition.

In A Clockwork Ley-Line, you play through the eyes of Koga Michiru as he gets to work for the school’s “Bureau for the Investigation of Special Affairs.”.

Short English title news

• Mangagamer (NSFW) currently has a XXXmas sale with large discounts on major titles, including Rance VI + 5D and Beat Blades Haruka.
  • DLC character stories for Lupiesoft’s Mutiny are now also available.

Japanese visual novels

Whirlpool announces Neko-nin exHeart 2

Whirlpool has announced a prequel to Neko-nin exHeart, logically named Neko-nin exHeart 2. A website was already opened as well, and the release date has currently been set to March 30.

You might know Neko-nin exHeart from its similarly named English release through collaboration with Sekai Project and Denpasoft. So far nothing has been announced regarding a translation of this latest title however.

Takano Yuki will once again work on the art for Neko-nin exHeart 2, with Oumiya Yuu as the story writer.

New Azurite title: Akumade, Kore wa ~ no Monogatari

Collaboration company Azurite opened the website for a new visual novel called Akumade, Kore wa ~ no Monogatari. Their 2nd title. To be released in March next year.

This new title will feature graphic work by renowned artists Nanao Naru, Mikeou, and Nanaroba Hana. And a story written by new name Saitou Osushi.

The website currently features a story page, character pages for the main heroines, and a release information page.

MintCube new title teaser

MintCube has published a teaser for their 3rd title called Yuusha to Maou to, Majo no Cafe. The full website will be opened in just a few days, on December 22. Nothing else is known about this title as of now.

MintCube is part of the same parent brand that companies like Cube and Hulotte belong to.

• BaseSon published a teaser page for the the latest Shin Koihime † Musou title.

Sorcery Jokers release date revealed and now accepting pre-orders.

Mangagamer has revealed the release date for the translation of 3rdEye’s most recent visual novel, Sorcery Jokers. Released in 2015, this visual novel will take you to a modern world where magic is a common thing, plenty of battle-action included.
The art for this title is by 3rdEye illustrator Makita Maki.

The English release date has been set to January 12. And pre-orders for the adult version are now available on Mangagamer’s website here (NSFW). An all-ages available will also be available on Steam at the same date.

• Sekai Project published the OP for Fatal Twelve (Youtube).
• The first bonus episode for “Rising Angels: Hope” was released on Steam.
• Fruitbat Factory and Paleontology released a demo for girls’ love game SeaBed.
• The Kickstarter campaign for Newton and the Apple Tree has reached the second stretch goal with 23 more days to go. A trial was released as well.

Japanese visual novels

Yuzusoft new title is called Riddle Joker

Following last week’s teaser message, Yuzusoft has now published the website for their latest visual novel. A game called Riddle Joker. Which will feature a story centered around ESP powers and secret organisations.

We also learn that Yuzusoft regulars Kobuichi and Muririn will be responsible for the art of Riddle Joker. While Amamiya Ritsu, Toishi Hiroki and Hozumi Kei will be writing the story.

Current pages available on the website include a story page, character introductions for 9 characters, and a page for general spec information. More information will undoubtedly follow over the following months as we get closer to the projected release date in March.

New brand Lime Cat debut title teaser

A new brand called “Lime Cat” published a teaser image for their debut title. Apart from the silhouettes of the 4 heroines, the image only confirms the game’s title as Hatarakanai Honey-Life. More info is yet to follow.

Newton and the Apple Tree Kickstarter 100% funded

Sol Press’ second Kickstarter project is turning out to be a huge success so far. The campaign for the localization of Laplacian’s Newton and the Apple Tree has already been fully funded. And not only that, they’ve already reached enough support for the 1st and 2nd stretch goals.

Sol Press has also partnered up with MiKandi Japan for campaign support. Which definitely seems to have been a right choice. With about 29 days left in the campaign, one would wonder where they can go.

Eternal Hour: Golden Hour released on Steam for free

Seventh Heart Studios and Sekai Project have released Eternal Hour: Golden Hour on Steam. This free to play visual novel lets you play through two prequels that explore the origins of Eternal Hour’s storyline. Good for about 3 hours of gameplay.

A free adult version is also available over at Denpasoft (Obviously nsfw).

Frontwing opens website for Momoiro Closet

Frontwing has opened the website (NSFW) for upcoming title Momoiro Closet. A visual novel in which protagonist Reiji discovers that role model & student council president Alice also happens to be a hidden otaku.

The newly opened website contains a gallery which currently contains 1 preview image, as well as a story and a character introduction.

The game has currently be set to release in April. Coming in both an all-ages edition as well as an adult edition (patch).

Short English title news

• The Borderline of Dusk backer beta has unfortunately been delayed until a later date.
• Developer Violet released a demo for thriller visual novel Dead Wishes.

Japanese visual novels

Yuzusoft 10th title teaser

Yuzusoft has published a short teaser on their homepage for their upcoming 10th title. You might know this company from popular titles like Noble Works, Sanoba Witch and the upcoming localisations for Dracu-Riot and Senren Banka.

More information will be published on the 8th.

Undeclared: Higher Education reaches funding goal

The Kickstarter project for a new visual novel called “Undeclared: Higher Education” reached their funding goal with a few more days to go. Undeclared is a slice of (college) life visual novel centered around Owen Takeda. A student who’s not so good with this whole “social interaction” thing.

Now that the project’s main funding goal has been reached, there are still some stretch goals that could be reached. This includes epilogues for all available routes. The project still has about 70 hours left before the campaign comes to a close.

Princess Guard reaches funding goal

Another Kickstarter project that reached its funding goal last week is “Princess Guard“. A fantasy visual novel by Archelon Works featuring a bodyguard called Reinhold.

Princess Guard has an alpha demo available for those that are interested in checking it out.

There are still some stretch goals that need funding, including additional routes and an OP and ED to complete the package.

Short English title news

• Frontwing updated the website for Grisaia Phantom Trigger with a new character bio.
• Sekai Project published the first entry in a series called “Boss Blog“.
• The NekoPara OVA has been completed. More details coming in December.
• The 18+ version of Eden of Grisaia is currently in QA.
• Development of Cotton Candy Cyanide’s Quantum Suicide is currently on hold.

Japanese visual novels

New Giga title: Mell Kiss

Giga has announced a new game in the ongoing “kiss” series of games. A website for the visual novel called Mell Kiss has been opened, providing us with some details about this upcoming title.

It looks like there will be 4 main heroines once again, similar to previous titles. Character introduction pages and 1 gallery image are available for each of these heroines.

The story for Mell Kiss will be written by Tamaki Kotoya and Hasama. While the art will be done by Unasaka and Hanekoto. Apart from Hanekoto all of these staff members have worked on previous “kiss” titles.

Mell Kisswill be released on March 23.

MoeNovel announces A Sky Full Of Stars

MoeNovel has announced that they’re working on an English version of Pulltop’s A Sky Full of Stars (Original title “Miagete Goran, Yozora no Hoshi o”). A title that followed the success of Konosora (If My Heart Had Wings) and Cocoro@Function (No English release). A Sky Full of Stars was originally released in Japan in late 2015.

A Steam page for this upcoming release was already published here. And a special website has also been made available. It’ll provide an introduction to the game for those of you that are unfamiliar with the original title.

A Sky Full of Stars is closer than you think, the full English release has currently been planned for December this year!

Hoshizora no Memoria Steam page and backer Steam key

Sekai Project and Favorite have opened the Steam page for the Hoshizora no Memoria -Wish upon a Shooting Star- visual novel. Steam keys were also distributed to eligible backers of the original Kickstarter project. The official release will take place on December 18.

Hoshizora no Memoria is a full-fledged visual novel by popular Japanese company Favorite. The game features a lengthy story with interesting surprises and plenty of heroines to enjoy.

Sol Press announces new project Newton and the Apple Tree

New localization company has announced another project. This one is called Newton and the Apple Tree and will be a direct translation of Laplacian’s Newton to Ringo no Ki. Released earlier this year in Japan. A website with a story summary and character introductions is available here, while there’s also an announcement trailer available on Youtube here.

Taking you back to the 17th century, Newton and the Apple Tree will tell an alternative version of history. With a small girl posing as the famous Sir Isaac Newton.

This will be the second project that Sol Press has taken on. A Kickstarter campaign will be available on December 1st.

Hearts opens website for new title Koi Suru Kokoro to Mahou no Kotoba

Following last week’s teaser, Hearts has now opened the website for their new title. Called Koi Suru Kokoro to Mahou no Kotoba. So far the game seems like to be another Moege title, just like their other recent titles.

The website comes with a story page, character pages for the 4 heroines, a world page with some beautiful scenery backgrounds, and a gallery with 5 preview images.

Shiromochi Sakura will be the main artist for Koi Suru Kokoro to Mahou no Kotoba. While the story will be written by Nisshi, Sendou Kaho, Kazama Bonanza, and Wakase Ryou.

The game’s release date has been set to May 25.

Campus opens website for Full Uso -Complete Four Seasons-

Campus has opened a website for a title called “Full Uso -Complete Four Seasons-“. Which will feature after stories for the various season-themed short titles that the company released earlier. Along with the original stories.

Karakara 2 was released last week on both Steam and over at Denpasoft. Continuing the story from the original game released in August last year.

• Seventh Heart Studios’ “Eternal Hour: Golden Hour” is expected to be released within the coming days.
• The previously announced update for Wonderful Everyday is now available on Steam.
• NSFW download title “Lust of the Apartment Wives” is now available over at Mangagamer.

Mirage Soft’s debut title is called Kimi to Tsunagaru Koi Flag

Following last week’s teaser, new brand Mirage Soft has now opened the website for their debut title Kimi to Tsunagaru Koi Flag. It’s a pretty typical website, with pages available for the story, character introductions, a gallery with 4 images. But definitely check it out if you want to get a glimpse of the artwork by Lucie and Kakao.

Kimi to Tsunagaru Koi Flag is targeted to release on March 30.

Ensemble: Ojou-sama wa Sunao ni Narenai fandisc announced

Ensemble has published a teaser page for a fandisc for their 2017 title Ojou-sama wa Sunao ni Narenai. The full title of the fandisc is “Ojou-sama wa Sunao ni Narenai ~Daisuki o Kimi Dake ni~.

Ojou-sama wa Sunao ni Narenai is one of Ensemble’s trap protagonist titles. With a lot of these titles receiving a fandisc it sure looks like there’s still enough interest in this genre.

More information will follow when the full page opens up on November 17.

New Hearts project coming up

Visual Novel company Hearts published a teaser page for their upcoming 5th title. An announcement that brings an end to the silence since their release of Natsuiro Kokoro Log in March this year. The full website for their 5th game will go live on November 17, so for now we only know that Shiromochi Sakura will once again be working on art. While 4 names have been announced for the story, presumably assigned to one heroine each.

On the Japanese side we’ve just had the October releases and not a lot of companies have updated us on their upcoming games. There’s still a new company that appeared however, and we’ve also had some patches for some of the earlier releases.

English visual novels

Little Busters English edition now available

Last week meant great news for fans of visual novels from VisualArts/Key. As Little Busters received its official English Edition release on Steam. Little Busters is probably one of the most well-known visual novels by the company, arguably of the entire genre as a whole. Especially for fans who’s been reading Japanese and/or fan-translated visual novels for a while.

The Little Busters English edition expands onto the “Perfect edition” of the game that now supports HD resolution as well.

Vifth Floor’s Void now available

Vifth Floor, a developer you might remember from the release of “Just Deserts”  in 2016, has now released their second title “Void“. A visual novel themed around espionage and revenge.

• Jast USA released its translated version of “Princess X – My Fiancee is a Monster Girl“.
• Neko-nin exHeart received a stand-alone story for Nachi. Available on Steam or over at Denpasoft.
• calme’s Karakara received a german translation.

• Frontwing will release an updated version of the patch for Wonderful Everyday soon.

• Vysoko Anime’s campaign for cyberpunk visual novel Crystal Chameleon is running strong at about 74% funded.
• The campaign for slice of college life visual novel “Undeclared: Higher Education” is about 32% funded.
• Dawn Drop is a new campaign for a university romance visual novel. Now at about 35% funded.

Teaser by new brand Mirage-Soft

A new company called Mirage-Soft published a teaser page for their debut game. Which will feature art by Lucie and Kakao.

Eiyu*Senki now available

JAST USA has now released strategy game visual novel Eiyu*Senki. A game set in a fictional past which bears resemblance to real world history. You’ll play as the leader of “Zipang” as you conquer the rest of the world. Featuring a whole array of (mainly) female troops you can add to your army.

The release was followed by two patches so far. The latest being patch 1.02. Download it over at the official website here.

Winged Cloud’s Legends of Talia: Arcadia released

Winged Cloud has now released the recently announced kinetic novel “Legends of Talia: Arcadia”. A short game in which the story follows the story of a legendary knight called Arcadia, who has fought many battles throughout her life.

If you’re interested, the game is currently available at a 25% launch discount here.

Ebi-hime’s Blackberry Honey released

But there’s more releases this week. Ebi-hime latest kinetic novel Blackberry Honey was released on Steam last week.

• Winged Cloud also released a free to download Halloween special called “Sakura Halloween” (Link).
• Vifth Floor’s visual novel “VOID” will also be released in a couple of hours.
• The second Clockwork Ley-Line game is now 87% complete (Source).
• Mangagamer opened the pre-orders for the second chapter of Kuroinu (NSFW).
• Hapymaher is also fully translated and 90% edited.
• Mangagamer will also be attending Anime NYC next month. Maybe with some new announcements.

Asa Project opens website for Kari Gurashi Ren’ai

Asa Project’s new title was already mentioned in last week’s update. But now they’ve also opened the website for said title, Kari Gurashi Ren’ai. At the website we get to see the main visual for the game, featuring 4 heroines. Although other than the character introduction pages, they only have a story and world page available.

Kari Gurashi Ren’ai will have a story written by Youka Nanoka, Amato, and Kotogawa Kon. All writers who also worked on the brand’s previous title, Suki to Suki to de Sankaku Ren’ai. It’s not much different with the artists, where we have Fuyuichi Monme, Yuuki Rika, and Yuunagi Seshina.

An exact release date has yet to be determined, but the target is set around next spring.

• Candysoft’s new sub-brand Hachimitsu Soft is working on a game called HarmonEy.
• Akabei Soft is working on another title called Shoujo to Toshi no Sa, Futamawari. Release in January.

Mangagamer: Umineko When They Cry – Answer Arcs pre-orders open

Mangagamer has now opened the pre-orders for the Umineko When They Cry – Answer Arcs. The next story arcs will be officially released in a multi-language version of the game on November 17.

The OP movie has been made available on Youtube here, while there’s also a gameplay preview available here.

Release date for Ebi-hime’s Blackberry Honey

Ebi-hime latest kinetic novel called Blackberry Honey will be on sale through Steam starting tomorrow. Blackberry Honey is a yuri visual novel set in England during the mid-19th century. And follows the life of heroine Lorina Waugh, just as she is fired from a maid position in the stately home of Hartwell.

An adult patch will also be made available for Blackberry Honey.

• Mutiny by Lupiesoft is now also available from Mangagamer (NSFW).
• Also, don’t forget that Eiyu*Senki will be releasing tomorrow.

Japanese visual novels

New Giga title: Soi Kano ~Gyutto Dakishimete~

Giga has announced a new title called Soi Kano ~Gyutto Dakishimete~. A visual novel which will feature 4 heroines. With a story written by Momono Eri, Leo, and Ejimura. The last name, you might remember, is from the staff list of “Koi to, Guitar to, Aoi Sora” by Cosmillica.

The art for Soi Kano will be done by multiple artists as well, namely Hinata Momo, Ameto Yuki, Kurasawa Moko, and Hisama Kumako.

A website was already opened as well, which features a story page, heroine and side-character introduction pages, as well as a small gallery filled with mostly nsfw images.

Soi Kano is planned to release on January 26.

New Silky’s Plus title: Butterfly Seeker

Do you remember 2015’s Neyuki no Genei by Silky’s Plus A5 Wagyuu? Then here’s some good news for you. The same Silky’s Plus brand has just announced to be working on a new title called Butterfly Seeker. A website has already been opened as well.

The website features a short story page, as well as character introduction pages and a small gallery.

Butterfly Seeker’s story will be written by Unabara Nozomu. It’ll have art by Hatori Piyoko.

Date announced and site opened for Hataraku Otona no Ren’ai Jijou 2

While it hasn’t been mentioned before on this website, Akabei Soft has announced to be working on Hataraku Otona no Ren’ai Jijou 2. A new title related to, but not a sequel, to Hataraku Otona no Ren’ai Jijou released in early last year. An official website has now been opened. Which has also revealed that the release date has been set to February 23.

New Prekano title: Otome Update

Prekano has announced their 3rd title. It’ll be called “Otome Update” and is set to be released this winter. A small website has been opened here, which gives us only a small story introduction and a character introduction.

Otome Update seems to be centered around just 1 heroine named Seika. It’ll have a story will be written by Kanou Kiichi. And art by a relatively new name in the VN world: Hagiwara Asami.

Fandisc announced for Azarashi Soft’s Aikagi

Azarashi Soft has published a teaser page for a fandisc for the 2017 title Aikagi. A game with the fitting title of “Aikagi ~After Days~”. Not too much is known at the moment, other than the fact that Momiage Lupin-R will write the story and Gintarou will do the art. Just like the original title.

• Alice Soft has set the release date for Rance 10 to February 23.

• Lass Pixy has opened the website for the Pure Marriage Sakura edition.
